Elon Musk To Fix Australia’s Power Problem, but how?
The billionaire Tesla founder threw down the gauntlet to the Australian government yesterday. Tesla executive Lyndon Rive said the company could install the 100-300 megawatt-hours of battery storage required to prevent the power shortages that have been causing blackouts. The company owned by Elon Musk to fix Australia’s power problem in 100 days.
Lyndon & @elonmusk – how serious are you about this bet? If I can make the $ happen (& politics), can you guarantee the 100MW in 100 days?
Mike Cannon-Brookes asked on twitter. Mike Cannon-Brookes is one of the founders of Australian software maker Atlassian Corp.
Musk then responded with
“Tesla will get the system installed and working 100 days from contract signature or it is free. That serious enough for you?”
South Australia has been suffering from power shortages since September last year. This, in turn, is causing a major knock-on effect such as price spikes, prolonged blackouts and political brawls over battery power.
Tesla’s pitch to the state offering grid-scale battery storage seems like the best solution to fix this major issue.
