New Concerns as Hackers Threaten To Wipe iPhones

Apparently a group of hackers are trying to extort money from Apple. They are demanding a huge ransom for a large amount of iCloud and email accounts. So, the hackers threaten to wipe iPhones data on 300,000 phones if Apple doesn’t pay £60,000 in Bitcoin. Or bizarrely £80,000 worth of iTunes gift cards.

First, the hackers are known as the Turkish Crime Family. And they are threatening to reset a number of the iCloud accounts and remotely destroy data. Basically, they’ve targetted a number of Apple devices for April 7th, unless Apple pays up.

The group claims to have access to millions of users accounts. Apparently one person’s account has been hacked. A personal was video leaked onto YouTube as proof of their capabilities and the commitment to their threat.

But, one of the hackers has apparently told a source:

I just want my money and thought this would be an interesting report that a lot of Apple customers would be interested in reading and hearing.

Overall, it is hard to tell whether there is actual proof regarding if the Turkish Crime Family. We don’t know if they can or will do what they are threatening.

Finally, if you’re an iPhone owner, it may be worth taking a backup just in case.
